Magic Squares

Since 2020, a colleague who prefers to remain anonymous and I have been relentlessly pouring our free time into an open mathematical problem: does there exist a 3×3 magic square containing seven, eight, or nine distinct perfect squares that is not equivalent to the only known example? Over more than six years, the search for a solution has grown into a broad investigation of partial configurations, arithmetic and algebraic connections, and computational methods. I have finally found the time to collect and present its results.
